Damiano David has us deep in our feelings with the release of his new single “Next Summer.” On Friday (February 28), the 26-year-old Maneskin singer rolled out the contemplative track and its accompanying music video, which finds him locked in prison for nearly 50 years. In the video, directed by Younuts, Damiano begins a prison sentence in the ’70s. Between glimpses at his experience serving his time are brief moments of joy as a woman visits him.
However, Damiano has an unfortunate realization when he’s released in 2025. “At first listen, the song speaks about youthful love—an unrequited summer romance.
But on a deeper level, it reveals a much larger reflection. It’s an allegory of life—How sometimes we can be prisoners of ourselves, our fears, our insecurities, our inability to change.
