Newborn baby mauled to death by dog as man and woman arrested

A man and woman have been arrested after a 12-day-old baby boy was mauled to death by a dog, police have said. Police said the tot had suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a dog and died a short time later in hospital.

The man, 35, and woman, 27, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence after the incident in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on Sunday.

The home where the baby was mauled to death lies empty as the family are being looked after by neighbours a few doors down. A police liaison officer at the neighbouring property has advised that the family are too upset to speak.
