In a heartbreaking turn of events on New Year's Eve, a teenage boy has tragically lost his life after being "seriously injured" by fireworks.The incident occurred in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and was confirmed by the city's police via their social media account.Their statement read: "A 14-year-old boy from Rotterdam died around 8.30pm after being seriously injured by fireworks on the Watergeusstraat in Rotterdam.

Unfortunately, resuscitation was no longer possible. We wish his family much strength.The police are investigating." As Rotterdam prepared for its National Fireworks Show set to take place later that evening, it is believed that the fatal firework was part of a local event not organized by the authorities.

Anticipation for the evening included plans for music and "extra screens" along the quays for the public's enjoyment starting from 10.30pm.

One devastated local commented on the tragedy, saying: "Horrible. We have to stop this. Only shows all over the country. Much strength to the relatives and the involved aid workers.", reports the Mirror..
