New signs to be installed at Dumfries and Galloway A75 accident blackspot

New signs are to be installed at an accident blackspot on the A75. There have been five accidents at the Euroroute’s junction with the B794 since March, the most recent resulting in three people being hospitalised earlier this month.

Following pressure from the council, MSP Finlay Carson and local councillor Pauline Drysdale, roads authority Amey South West has now agreed to put up new signs making drivers aware of the turn-off.

The move is in addition to Transport Scotland asking Amey what improvements can be implemented at the junction. Galloway and West Dumfries MSP, Finlay Carson, said: “The concerns about the A75 Haugh of Urr junction have been a regular feature in my mailbag since I was elected in 2016 and I am glad that there now seems to finally be some recognition from Amey and Transport Scotland that this junction needs to be looked at again. “I hope these new signs will help to reduce the accidents at this junction but it’s clear to us all that it won’t be a silver bullet and that’s why the further investigation into this junction – and others on the A75 – is important in identifying other improvements that can be made to reduce accident risk.

I will continue to liaise with both Transport Scotland and Amey to ensure that works to investigate the Haugh of Urr junction and others are undertaken as soon as possible. “Following this investigation, I will also work to press them for action and investment into these junctions to make the A75 safer for all road users.” Councillor Drysdale added: “After lobbying and speaking at communities committee, I was relieved to hear from Amey regarding their confirmation of plans to install new signage on the approach to the B794 Haugh of Urr Junction on the A75
