Taking pets on holiday after Brexit may become slightly easier than feared under a plan set to be unveiled within days. UK ministers are expecting to be able to announce a halfway-house deal on pet travel to the continent from January.
Under the proposed scheme, Brits would need to visit the vet around a month before taking a dog, cat or ferret to the EU. That would be a big drop from a four-month process which was expected to take force from January 1.
However, it’s still much more of a burden than the current pet passport scheme, which is ending in Britain due to Brexit. The compromise was hinted at today by Environment Secretary George Eustice.
