New musical set in Paisley hits the stage in Renfrew next month
dailyrecord.co.ukAn original Scottish musical set in Paisley is hitting the stage in Renfrew next month.Thread has been created by Fraser Scott, Iona Ramsay and Bethany Tennick of Paisley-based theatre company, Kick the Door.It is based in Paisley and explores community, grief and family with an ensemble of Scottish actor-musicians.Features 12 brand new songs, Thread explores how two sisters navigate their complex relationship with each other, as well as how they process the grief of recently losing their mother; a woman who was a matriarch and pillar in their community.Fraser Scott from Kick The Door said: “Thread is a story of family and community, and our largest production after three years of working together.“We made Thread out of a passion for homegrown stories, for shows written and performed in Scottish accents, and to push the expectations of modern musical theatre.“We are a group of young, emerging artists based in Paisley putting on a big bold folk musical about our home.”Development of the show started with a commission from Paisley Arts Centre as part of the New Space Festival in February 2020.
The live in-person experience was cancelled due to lockdown, but the company presented a live stream to an audience of 5,000 during lockdown.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.
Sign up to our newsletters here.Since then, the work has been taken to full production with support from Creative Scotland as part of Future Paisley.The show opens on May 24 for a five-night run at Renfrew Town Hall before forming part of OneRen’s Cultural Venues Reopening Programme in 2023.OneRen’s performance producer Louise Oliver said: “It’s a real joy to be producing Thread with a company like Kick the Door.
