New Look is set to close 26 of its high street stores across the Republic of Ireland as the Irish branch of the business goes into liquidation.This move is anticipated to result in a loss of 350 jobs.The New Look outlets will temporarily close their doors in the coming days, only to reopen on February 23 for a clearance sale.The High Court in Ireland gave the green light for provisional liquidators on Thursday, as New Look aims to wind down its Irish operations after years of "sustained losses and challenging market conditions".
Following the court's decision, employees at the 26 locations were informed, and the high street fashion giant - which made its debut in the Irish market in 2003 - announced that a 30-day staff consultation process has commenced.
However, it's widely believed that a collective redundancy process affecting all employees in the Republic of Ireland is on the cards.The company emphasised its commitment to supporting its workforce throughout this difficult period.
The Irish Labour Party called for immediate action from the company to safeguard the workers.The party's enterprise spokesman George Lawlor stated: "New Look Retailers Ireland Ltd must recognise the human impact of this decision and immediately engage with workers in a meaningful and constructive manner.
