New Ayrshire Hospice base 'well on its way' as foundations are laid

The new base of Ayrshire’s treasured community hospice is ‘well on its way’ now that the foundations have been laid.The £17 million redevelopment of Ayrshire Hospice’s site on Ayr’s Racecourse Road will ‘future proof’ the hospice for generations to come - and enhance the care it gives by offering increased privacy, comfort and services.Site clearing and demolition work, carried out by McLaughlin & Harvey, for the Capital Build Project began in December last year with the ground being broken in April.And now the concrete pour for the In-Patient Unit - which will house 12 specialist palliative care en-suite rooms - is complete, with the charity eagerly awaiting the arrival of the steel frame.The new facility, which is on track to open in Autumn 2024, will also house a new Living Well Hub offering medical and therapeutic support, Clinical and Community Nursing Hubs, outpatient counselling rooms, an Education Hub, a public coffee shop, gift shop, beauty therapy rooms, and landscaped gardens.And in a Hospice first, a multi-faith contemplation space will be created to host weddings and celebrations, as well as providing a place for people to remember loved ones.Tracy Flynn, Ayrshire Hospice Chief Executive, said: “We’ve got a beautiful contemplation space coming within the new building and that’s something which the Hospice hasn’t had before.“It’s part of having areas open to the public seven days a week where you’ll be able to come in to that space, light a candle, remember.
