WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from One Day on Netflix. Netflix viewers have been left utterly heartbroken by the brand new romantic drama series One Day, which is an adaptation of the popular book of the same name by David Nicholls.

The highly-anticipated show, which spread Dexter Mayhew (played by Leo Woodall) and Emma Morley's (Ambika Mod) slow-burning love story across 14 episodes, seemed like a classic will-they-won't-they saga for 13 of those.

Yet in the penultimate instalment, just as the lead pair finally realise they're soul mates and make their longtime friendship official, Emma dies.

In a horrific twist and one that's incredibly divisive for both book, film and TV show fans alike, the beloved children's author sadly gets into an accident.
