Just weeks after the Queen's funeral, Netflix is set to release The Crown series five which portrays the late Prince Philip pursuing an affair with friend Penny Knatchbull.
Royal experts and those close to the Royal Family have spoken out against the decision to show these scenes with former press secretary to the Queen, Dickie Arbiter, branding it "cruel rubbish.” Viewers are set to see the Duke of Edinburgh, played by actor Jonathan Pryce, pursuing an affair with high society beauty Penny, 69, who is now the Countess Mountbatten of Burma.
Royal experts said showing dramatisations of intimate scenes between Philip and Penny is "cruel" particularly in the wake of the Queen's death just weeks ago.
Netflix had initially considered stalling the release, and while filming was temporarily paused, the launch of series five will go ahead on 9 November as planned.
