Netflix is moving closer to expanding its hit franchise based on the South Korean phenomenon. The first season of Squid Game debuted in 2021, leaving millions of fans eagerly awaiting the sequel.
The second season is set to premiere on December 26, over three years later, with a third and final instalment due next year.
However, this won't mark the end of the saga, as Netflix has been rumoured to be developing an English-language adaptation. After over a year of speculation, it's now reported that acclaimed director David Fincher, known for Zodiac and Gone Girl, is linked to the spin-off, provisionally titled Squid Game: America.
This news was first hinted at by Jeff Sneider in April 2023. In June this year, The Playlist corroborated the rumours, stating "Fincher has been quietly working on [an English-language] Squid Game for the last two years or so".
