Netflix, which has spent the past three years pushing into video games, has announced 14 new game titles soon to join the slate.
Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game will be an exclusive mobile title for Netflix subscribers. Mobile is currently the dominant way to experience games on Netflix, though the company last year said it had rolled out a beta version of a cloud gaming platform for a select number of UK and Canada subscribers.
The cloud system, which enables gaming on computers and connected-TVs, is expected to expand more broadly over the next couple of years, pending the results of the beta.
According to the official logline, Tales of the Shire enables players to become a Hobbit from J.R.R Tolkien’s LOTR books. Battling orcs isn’t the order of the day, however. “Greet comfort at the door as you decorate your own Hobbit hole, tend to your garden, fish at the clear ponds, forage wild fruits and herbs, or trade with townsfolks,” the official description says. “Prepare homemade meals to share with fellow Hobbits and foster relationships.
