Netflix sleuths have told horror fans to watch a hidden gem series on the streaming platform that they claim is "better than The Walking Dead." Black Summer only spanned two seasons before it was axed.

The 2019 show is a prequel to Sci-fi horror series Z Nation. It stars Jamie King as apocalypse survivor Rose who is searching for his missing daughter in the early days of a zombie outbreak.

The official synopsis reads: "In the dark, early days of a zombie apocalypse, complete strangers band together to find the strength they need to survive and get back to loved ones." The series scores an impressive 87 per cent Rotten Tomatoes rating and was created by Z Nation showrunners John Hyams and Karl Schaefer.

In comparison the The Walking Dead has an average rating of 79 per cent, The Mirror reports. There are currently two eight-episode seasons to enjoy on Netflix, but in sad news for fans of the series, a third has been ruled out.
