One man died and another was left fighting for his life in hospital following a 2.30am stabbing incident on New Year's Day. A 38-year-old died after suffering a 'severe knife wound' in Deeplish, Rochdale, during the early hours of January 1.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and battled to save him, but he died at the scene. A second man, 30, suffered 'serious injuries' in the same incident and remains in a stable condition in hospital.
Detectives from Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation and say, although no arrests have been made, they 'are not currently seeking anyone else' in connection with their enquiries.
The police investigation is focussing on two areas, one on Essex Street where a forensics tent has been erected, and another a short distance away on Milkstone Road where a paramedics bag could be seen abandoned on the pavement outside Milky Way ice cream parlour.
