Nan 'stabbed to death trying to break up fight' behind pub

A nan was tragically stabbed to death after she tried to 'break up a fight' between two men behind a pub. Karen Dempsey was discovered by emergency services after they were called to Cherryfield Drive in Kirkby, Merseyside, at around 8.10pm on Monday following reports of a fight.

The woman in her 50s was found with a stab wound to her chest. She was rushed to hospital but died a short time later. A local man reported that Karen died after she attempted to break up a fight between two men on a service road behind the Brambles pub, the Liverpool Echo reports. They both went behind the pub and had a fight. Karen went out and tried to break up the fight, when she was stabbed." The man also referred to Karen as a "lovely person' who used to work at the Brambles pub.

He also noted that the Liverpool FC fan was "devoted to her grandchildren". Other tributes have also appeared on social media, with one user writing: "I am so sad to hear the news today of such a lovely woman taken away from us too soon, R.I.P." Officers confirmed that the woman's family have been informed of the incident.
