Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries is to appoint a Power of Music Commissioner to spread the benefits of choir singing and music to help people suffering from dementia, depression and long Covid.
Ms Dorries and Vicky McClure, the Line of Duty star, endorsed a UK Music and Music For Dementia report which sets out a plan to harness the uplifting power of music to transform people’s mental health and well-being.

Data from University College London suggested that people who spent 30 minutes or more each day during the pandemic on arts activities such as listening to music have lower reported rates of depression and anxiety and greater life satisfaction.
