A British man has reportedly been found dead in Colombia. The 27-year-old man’s lifeless body is said to have been found in a fourth-floor apartment in the town of Villamaria on Sunday morning. He has been identified locally as a UK national and named as Austen Arango Smith.
His body was taken to a forensic medicine institute in the nearby city of Manizales so a post-mortem could take place. The results of the autopsy have not yet been made public.
Little has been published locally about the possible causes of death. One regional newspaper reported he had been found with breathing difficulties in his room in a building called Atenas and was already dead by the time emergency responders arrived.Villamaria is a popular tourist destination in the department of Caldas which is part of Colombia’s Coffee Triangle.
Although it lies just 190 miles west of the capital Bogota, the drive takes nearly eight hours. It was not immediately clear this afternoon if the dead man was living in Villamaria, which has a population of around 65,000 inhabitants, or was holidaying in Colombia.
