Strangers have rallied round to support a family after their lives were turned upside down after their 11-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer just a week before Christmas, and faces the rest of his life on chemotherapy.Oliver from Bransholme, Hull, may also need a bone marrow transplant at some point as part of his treatment for chronic myeloid leukaemia, but his devastated family are not certain what the future holds for him.His mum Kirsty Bulmer said: “Oliver was usually an outgoing lad, who loved rugby and going out with his friends; now he’s not allowed in any public places, he can’t mix with other people because he is immunocompromised.”He is one of six boys, with two of his brothers having health challenges of their own, and his worried parents juggling his treatment with the needs of their other children.Incredibly, Oliver's story has reached another local boy, who was unknown to the family, but has decided to take on a fundraising challenge to support them, reports Hull Live.Bobbie Murray, 10, is set to take on a three peaks challenge in April, with a target of £3,000.
His dad Robert, who is taking part alongside him, said: “Oliver’s mum and dad are facing a struggle and a lot of stress; hopefully some money will help to relieve a bit of that stress.”Kirsty said: “They reached out to us.
It’s so thoughtful for a boy to want to do something for another boy, when he’s only ten-years-old himself.“I didn’t know what to say.
I just said ‘thank you for thinking of him’. I can’t believe someone so young wants to help other children in Hull.”Oliver's diagnosis came after months of illness, during which he started being sick and lost "quite a lot of weight", leaving his mum concerned he may have an eating disorder.
