Carl Smythe, 46, was an inmate at HMP Manchester after he was jailed for murdering Damien Bendelow in Liskeard, Cornwall, in January 2020.
He was found dead in his cell in May 4 of this year, an inquest opening at Manchester Coroner's Court heard. Area Coroner for Manchester, Zak Golombeck, said a note of intent had been left in his cell at Strangeways and there were no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.
