A mum who suffered from years of abuse during her childhood and who was raped by two men has been diagnosed with cancer. Sammy Jayne Nye, 42, was given a shock breast cancer diagnosis in July.

It is the latest blow for the survivor, who was subjected to horrific sexual abuse at the hands of her deceased step-grandfather, as well as another man, when she was only 15.

And despite bad news, brave Sammy has taken the diagnosis in her stride to help and inspire others - as she has already done when it comes to her own sexual abuse. "I noticed the dimpling, but I put it to the back of my mind and didn't notice for a while because you don't always look in the mirror do you?" Sammy told LancsLive. "Then on the 13th of July, I was doing one of my evening classes and had a sharp pain there, so I investigated when I got home. "I looked in the mirror and noticed a significant change and realised this issue wasn't going to go away.

I started to examine myself and I thought I had found a lump, but I also thought my mind might be playing tricks on me, but thought it best to call my doctor anyway."Sammy called her GP at 9am the next morning and secured an appointment an hour and a half later.
