Mum's anger after Year 11 son is 'banned from taking GCSE'

Parents have been left furious at a high school over GCSEs. One parent has said how that their son has been dropped from studying history in Year 11 in favour of more Maths lessons.

StokeonTrentLive understands that around half of the 206-pupil Year 11 Birches Head Academy intake has been affected by the suggested removal of a GCSE option subject in favour of more Maths and English lessons.

The boy had studied history throughout Year 10 as part of his GCSE studies and his Year 11 timetable has already been changed.

The parent said: “If they are having to do this with so many Year 11 students, that’s not a problem with the children, that’s a bigger problem with the school.
