A mum-of-three says she has been left more than £2,000 out of pocket after being switched to Universal Credit. Gemma Bloor, 29, was moved from working tax credits last summer after suffering an accident at work.

But she claims she did not receive any money for six weeks, ended up with £800 childcare arrears due to the benefit changes, landed a £300 council charge, and had her Universal Credit withheld last month.

It has left Gemma unable to pay her rent or other bills. The Universal Credit was withheld last month when the support worker received a £1,100 'welfare fund' grant from her employer - after being turned down for similar support from the welfare state.
