A safety warning has been issued about the dangers of e-bike and e-scooter batteries after a mum-of-four died when a fire broke out in her bedroom.
Rebecca Downes, 44, and her partner Patrick Ramsey, in his 50s, were at their home in Hill Street, Blackpool, when the battery from an e-scooter caught fire in their room.
Within two minutes, toxic smoke had engulfed the bedroom as the battery exploded 'like a Roman candle'. The couple were unable to escape the second floor bedroom and had to jump out of the window.
Patrick, who runs a bike repair shop, had put the battery on charge in the kitchen but had taken it upstairs when Rebecca said she was not happy leaving it unattended.
