A mum broke down in tears in Asda when debating whether or not she could afford a 55 pence treat for her children. The shopper said the worry over her spending has become 'too much' amid the cost of living crisis.
While the bakery section she spotted a sweet treat for her children, costing 55p according to the Mirror. But when she had to deliberate whether or not her budget could stretch to that amount she got upset in the aisle.
The punter recalled her family being 'comfortable' financially three years ago but now struggled on their £30 two-week shop.
Frustrated at her situation she took to Mumsnet to vent.She wrote: "Is it just me that the whole cost of living thing is getting too much for?"I actually had a (very small and no one watching!) cry in Asda when I saw some reduced bakery goods because I didn’t know if I could afford them alongside my entire Smartprice shop."I had £30 for a 2-week shop including nappies, and it just broke me that I actually had to wonder if I could afford a 55p treat for my kids."I can’t believe we’re living like this, 3 years ago we were comfortable and now I’m relying on the free school meals half-term vouchers."The mum added that she wasn't looking for budgeting advice with her post and simply wanted solidarity from other mums in the comments - several of whom were quick to admit they're in the same position.One person said: "It is horrible.
