Uniformed police officers and local leaders stood side by side with family and friends of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes at a memorial service, marking the 10th anniversary of the officers being killed on duty by fugitive Dale Cregan.
PC Hughes, 23, from Saddleworth, and PC Bone, 32, from Sale, were shot dead by Cregan on September 18 2012. Cregan had been on the run, after murdering gangland rivals Mark Short and his father David.
He lured the two officers to an address in Mottram in Longdendale, Tameside, with a bogus report of a burglary. He shot them dead and threw a grenade on their bodies. Along with the officers' families and former colleagues, Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham was in attendance, as well and Ashton-under-Lyne MP and Deputy Labour Leader Angela Rayner.
