dailyrecord.co.ukBlair Spittal says Motherwell showed character in fighting back to draw 1-1 at home to St Johnstone at Fir Park yesterday.A fairly even first half led to the Perth side breaking the deadlock in bizarre fashion in 53 minutes when Liam Kelly came out for Matt Smith’s free kick, missed it, the ball cannoned off defender Bevis Mugabi and into his own net.But Motherwell levelled two minutes into stoppage time when Theo Bair’s sweeping cross was bullet headed into the left corner by Mika Biereth to snatch a point.Midfielder Spittal said: “Tuesday [3-0 defeat at Ross County] was disappointing, but I think the character we’ve shown in a lot of the games this season is there for all to see.“We knew it was a massive game today.
There wasn’t much in the game, but then we give St Johnstone something to hold onto, and it looked like it was going to be one of those days again.“But it just shows the character in the dressing room that we never stopped going.“We didn’t create lots of clear-cut chances, but when the moment came, Mika was there to capitalise.“It’s a big goal for us.
