Motherwell boss Steven Hammell has paid tribute to outgoing chief executive Alan Burrows, saying he will be hard to replace.Burrows made the shock announcement yesterday that he is to step down following 15 years at the club, nine of which have been as CEO.During that time the club has raked in millions in player sales, undergone major stadium renovation work, finished third in the Premiership, and played in Europa League and Europa Conference League qualifiers. The Fir Park club also reached two domestic cup finals and won the SFA Youth Cup for the first time.Speaking this morning, Hammell said Burrows will be a big loss.He said: “From a professional point of view I’m disappointed to see him make that decision.“I totally understand where he is and where he’s coming from, but I’m disappointed, because I know how much he puts into this.

I know how much the club means to him.“He’s very similar to myself in that he doesn’t clock out at 5pm, go home and that’s him until the next day.“He’s fully invested, he spends every minute of the day thinking about how he can do better for this club.“His commitment to it and any success we’ve had over his period of time, he has been a big part of that.”Hammell added: “He will be a big loss.

He’s here every day, he’s here every minute of every day.“He’s skilful at his job, he’s good at his job, he’s passionate, the club means a lot to him.“He’s going to be difficult to replace, for sure.

If you think about Motherwell, Alan Burrows is one of the first names that comes to mind.“It’s unfortunate for us that his time at the club is coming to an end, but hopefully that’s not an immediate decision.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagram
