'Most expensive' supermarket now cheaper than Aldi and Lidl after 15% price cut on shopping essential

A supermarket once accused of 'taking the mick' out of customers with price rises has swiped the 'cheapest' crown from Aldi after cutting the cost of an essential by 15% since last week.

Despite being among the most expensive retailers for much of the last year, Morrisons is now the cheapest of all the six main supermarkets in our weekly comparison.

Every week since March 2022, we've compared the price of a basket of mince, chicken, a two-pint bottle of milk, a loaf of bread, coffee, teabags, butter and beans at Morrisons, Sainsbury's Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl. Read more: Shoppers divided as The Range makes big change to stores It was only this April when Morrisons worked out as the most expensive of the lot and in July it was criticised for hiking the price of its cheapest Savers tea bags by 13% in a week, an increase it reversed after a backlash from shoppers.

But this week the supermarket is the cheapest of them all, after dropping the price of its chicken breasts to the lowest price around.
