A pensioner who has scooped a crash prize says he'll be using it to keep warm through the winter. David Upton, 75, from Derbyshire, has won £305 on the Picky My Postcode lottery.
However, rather than treating himself, David Upton from Church Gresley, near Burton-on-Trent in south Derbyshire, said he was one of the millions of pensioners affected by the scrapping of the winter fuel allowance.
Chancellor for the Exchequer Rachel Reeves explained the new government would need to make the cut to help fill the £22bn black hole deficit found in the budget after taking over from the Conservative government in July earlier this year. He said he has been checking the lottery's website daily since he joined seven years ago in 2017. The Survey draw which normally amounted to £50 normally had not been picked in ten days therefore the prize pot had rolled over, accumulating to £500, however another lucky member of the scheme also claimed the draw.
