Morgan Whittaker’s hopes of a move to Rangers this month are still alive after he failed to make the Swansea City bench for the Welsh side's Championship fixture against Michael Beale’s former club QPR.

The 22-year-old winger is a target for Beale but if he had featured at Loftus Road for the Welsh side in their Championship clash then any chance of a January transfer would have been over as, having played for Plymouth Argyle while on loan this season, FIFA rules prevent him playing for a third club.

Former Rangers defender Russell Martin’s club aren’t now in action again until they play Birmingham City after the transfer window closes so it’s a huge relief to the Ibrox side who can now work to try and get a deal over the line for the player. Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier this week how former Derby County man Whittaker is keen on a move north of the border but Rangers are reportedly a good bit away in their valuation of the player, with Swans boss Martin revealing a bid had been rejected.

Martin said on the eve of the game that Whittaker was included in the squad for their trip to west London and that sparked fears that any move to sign him this month would be dead in the water, but he hasn't been named on the bench.
