Ethan Shanfeld Joe Jonas made a surprise cameo in last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” singing the bridge on the digital short song “Big Dumb Line.” But sources tell Variety that part was initially written for musical guest Morgan Wallen, who turned down the part.

In the sketch, Bowen Yang, Chloe Fineman and host Mikey Madison sing a Europop-inspired song about waiting in “dumb” lines in New York for even dumber foods, like “palad” (pizza + salad) and “fandy” (fish + candy).

NBC could not be reached for comment. Wallen played two songs on “SNL” from his upcoming album “I’m the Problem.” The country star stirred up speculation after he abruptly exited the stage at the end of the episode, skipping out on the show’s hugs and goodnights protocol, and then posting on Instagram, “Get me to God’s country,” which was seen as a slight against “SNL” and the city of New York.

Sources in Wallen’s camp told Variety the day after the episode filmed that Wallen had no tension with “SNL” and stressed that the singer had a good time.
