Legacy benefit claimants are at risk of losing access to their payments. It comes as the next stage of the Universal Credit migration begins on Monday, September 2.

It will involve those claiming income-based Jobseeker Allowance (JSA) who will be sent out special letters by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), informing them that their benefit is ending and asking them to instead apply for Universal Credit.

It is understood that more than 800,000 migration notices have been sent out since March 2024 with nearly 185,000 losing their payments since July 2022 as a result of not completing their transfer.

The government has highlighted that in order to continue receiving financial support, those who claimed JSA will need to change their claim to Universal Credit.
