Montana Brown has shared her sadness at the death of her late friend Mike Thalassitis on the third anniversary of his tragic death at the age of 26.

Montana, now 26, and Mike grew close after their time together in the 2017 series of Love Island and were in constant contact before Mike took his own life in 2019, 18 months after rising to fame on the ITV2 series.

Mike was often perceived as a ladies man after entering the Love Island villa, but speaking exclusively to OK!, Montana insists that he was “misunderstood” and that the former footballer “just wanted somebody to give his everything to”.

She told us: “I was honestly so fond of Mike and he was so misunderstood. He had this kind of persona on TV of a bad boy and all the girls fell for him – he was this Greek god." “People actually thought he was like that but, as a TV personality, it’s your job to be entertaining so when you’ve got TV shows coming up to you asking you to be a bit of a character, it comes with that," Montana continued. “But, actually getting to know him as a person was a real privilege because his family are just so lovely. “He has just the most wholesome, lovely family and his parents have been married forever and I think he only ever truly wanted that. That’s what was so ironic because people saw him on TV and were like ‘Oh there’s so many girls after him’ and, I think he did, but deep down he just wanted to fall in love with his person and someone who was going to love him unconditionally.” Montana went on to say that the industry “really messed him up in a lot of ways” because he was subjected to so much criticism.
