Good Morning Britain’s Dr Hilary Jones has warned that monkeypox may have become ‘more transmissible’ amid the recent outbreak in the UK.
The first ever human case of the virus was identified in a child in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970 - and has since become endemic in western and central Africa.
Concerns have grown across Europe after a number of cases were identified in several countries in recent weeks. At least 57 cases of the disease have also been discovered in the UK - including one confirmed in Scotland earlier today.
Speaking on GMB this morning, Dr Hilary described the recent discovery of cases as “unprecedented”.
