If you've never considered storing tea and coffee in the freezer, it might be time to reconsider. According to experts at Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert, rethinking food storage habits could significantly help your money-saving efforts.
In addition to these popular beverages, the financial experts have identified a range of unexpected kitchen items that can be stored in the freezer to extend their shelf life.
This not only reduces the need for frequent shopping trips but also helps to minimise food waste. Shockingly, Business Waste reports that 9.5 million tonnes of food, worth billions of pounds, is thrown away each year.
A significant portion of this, if not recycled, could end up in landfill, contributing to the growing issue of greenhouse gas emissions. "Lots of food and drinks can be saved from being wasted by freezing them in ice cube trays," MSE experts said in its latest newsletter. "They're then in convenient portions for you to add to your cooking (or use in another drink)." If you're interested in freezing coffee and tea, the MSE team suggests using the cubes as flavour enhancers when making beverages in the future.
