This is the moment scores of police descended on the Northern Quarter after two officers were assaulted whilst on Mad Friday patrol.
The officers had been working in the city centre last night (Friday, December 18), when they spotted a group of people fighting near to Stevenson Square at around 9.40pm.

As one of the group was apprehended, he assaulted one of the officers, police said. His colleague came back to assist him, but as he did so, a second male struck that officer to the back of the head.
