They were in control for almost all of the contest and could have won by an even bigger margin. United, despite making a bright start in the opening five minutes, were second best, failing to get into any sort of rhythm.
They showed no signs of a style of play, with their midfield often being exposed by Liverpool's energy and fluidity.
