Ofgem is due to announce the new energy price cap on November 22, with Cornwall Insight's latest forecast suggesting it will rise by £19 over the next year, equating to around £1.58 per month.
The energy consultancy firm predicts the price cap will increase from the current £1,717 to £1,736, a one per cent rise. However, a fresh report from clean energy-tech company Aira indicates that 65 per cent of UK homeowners are significantly affected by escalating energy costs.
The threat of 'energy poverty' - where a household must cut its energy usage to such an extent that it negatively impacts an individual's health and wellbeing - has been silently increasing throughout the cost of living crisis, with over a third (34%) of UK homeowners resorting to their savings to cover their energy bills.
The physical and emotional toll is being felt nationwide, with 75 per cent of people in Yorkshire and The Humber limiting their heating use to save on energy costs and 13 per cent of Londoners suffering from sleep deprivation.
