Mike Phelan said Manchester United are always looking to recruit players who will improve the squad after he was asked which positions the club is looking to strengthen in when the transfer window opens.
The MEN understands United have made Jadon Sancho their top target, while James Maddison and Jack Grealish are also under consideration, as is the prodigious Birmingham City teenager Jude Bellingham.
In a Q&A hosted on the Manchester FA's Twitter page on Friday night, Phelan would not be drawn on specific positions United are hoping to strengthen in as he responded: "Manchester United are always looking to find the right players to improve and bolster the squad."
