Michael Kiwanuka has won the 2020 Hyundai Mercury Prize for his album KIWANUKA. "This is for art, for music, for albums," Michael said of his win. "It's the only thing I've ever wanted to do, so to win a Mercury is a dream come true." Michael previous two albums, 2012's Home Again and 2016's Love & Hate, were both shortlisted for the prize.
In place of a live ceremony at the Eventim Apollo due to the coronavirus pandemic, the result was announced on BBC One's The One Show by BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac alongside regular hosts Alex Jones and Amol Rajan.
Michael was named the victor over Anna Meredith, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Georgia, Kano, Lanterns on the Lake, Laura Marling, Moses Boyd, Porridge Radio, Sports Team and Stormzy.
