The Met Office has advised Brits to close their curtains at dusk in a bid to battle plunging temperatures - and keep a lid on jumpy energy prices.The tip was included in the weather service's six-point plan to help householders keep the heat as an "unseasonably chilly" cold snap affects much of the country.
It advised: "Draw your curtains at dusk to help keep the heat generated inside your rooms" long after the sun has gone down.
It also suggests making sure radiators aren't obstructed by furniture of curtains so they can be at full power when they are most needed.
People who are older or have health conditions should keep their temperatures in their homes at least 18C or higher, it suggested.
