The Met Office has issued an amber warning ahead of "dangerous" conditions predicted for New Year's Eve, alerting to a spree of fresh warnings including an amber alert for persistent rain affecting parts of northern Scotland like Inverness and Fort William.
Meanwhile, much of Scotland faces a yellow warning for persistent rain and snow.The amber notice kicks off at midnight on Monday December 30 and remains until 5pm on New Year's Eve, with up to 70mm of rain possibly hammering down in this time frame.
Residents are being warned: "Keep yourself and others safe; prepare to avoid travelling by road during potentially dangerous road conditions.
If you must travel, ensure you watch for possible danger and drive cautiously." Additionally, a yellow snow warning covers Orkney and Shetland, while northern England, southern Scotland, Northern Ireland, and regions like Wales, the Midlands, and northwest England are cautioned with yellow wind warnings.The forecast for Tuesday from the Met Office details heavy, continuous rain across Scotland, which could turn to snow in parts.
