Met Office issues 12-hour weather warning as brutal rain to batter Scotland this weekend

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office as parts of Scotland brace for 'disruptive' rain this weekend.

Much of the country has suffered a period of wet weather in recent days and weeks, with downpours becoming heavy and persistent in parts this evening and into the weekend.

Some areas will see as much as 60mm, with higher grounds set for the worst of the weather. The Met Office warning will fall into place at 8pm this evening, Friday, July 13, and will remain in place for 12 hours until 8am on Saturday, July 14.Forecasters are also warning that lightning may be an additional hazard in some places, with widespread disruption likely as the unsettled weather conditions take hold.

A risk of flooding means that roads will turn hazardous, with other transport methods potentially affected as they are cancelled or delayed.There is also risk to power supplies and other services, with home in the most affected areas subject to flooding.
