Greater Manchester Police tweeted brief details of the incident from its GMP Traffic account last night, including an image of the vehicle on the side of St Peter's Road after it had crashed into a bush.

The pursuit continued on foot but the suspect was eventually arrested by officers on the ground with the help of a police dog.

The force said: "This Mercedes failed to stop for RPU (Roads Policing Unit) patrol and hit speeds of 130mph on St Peter’s way in Bolton before the ability of the driver ran out and he crashed. "With help from dog patrol, driver arrested and in custody."
