A memorial service for former Dumfries Tory councillor, Lieutenant Colonel John Charteris MBE, is to be held tomorrow at 2pm at the Crichton Memorial Church in Dumfries.
A Lochar ward councillor for 15 years, he died on December 23 aged 83. His family, including his wife Antoinette, his three children Camilla, Annabel and Nick and 11 grandchildren, had a private funeral at the time.
Tomorrow’s memorial is a chance for the public to pay their respects and there will be an input from Dumfries Veterans Garden, which he strongly supported.
In the region, he was also instrumental in building up the Army Cadet Force and is also known locally for the work he put into Marie Curie Cancer Care, for which he was the chief fundraiser for south west Scotland.
