A documentary on First Lady Melania Trump directed by Brett Ratner is bound for Prime Video, a spokesperson for Amazon confirmed on Sunday morning.
The company has “exclusively licensed” the project “for both theatrical and streaming release,” they said, with the project to offer viewers “an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look” at Trump.
Filming kicked off in December — one month after Donald Trump’s victory in a second presidential election — for an anticipated release in the second half of next year.
Fernando Sulichin is exec producing for New Element Media, along with Mrs. Trump. “Prime Video will be sharing more details on the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized,” said the spokesperson. “We are excited to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world.” Amazon making a deal for the Trump doc is no surprise, given support shown to the former and future POTUS by the tech giant’s founder, Jeff Bezos, who following Trump’s latest election victory, took to X to commend his “extraordinary political comeback.” Bezos, who owns the Washington Post, made headlines during the election by deciding that the paper would withhold a presidential endorsement for the first time in nearly four decades, citing the possibility of creating a “perception of bias.” The move hasn’t sat well with reporters, members of the editorial board, and other staffers, with Pulitzer-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes being just the most recent to resign.
