During her time as a member of the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex had to follow a number of unique royal rules when it came to official gatherings - including a rather unique way to use the toilet during an dinner party.

Some rules are standard practice, such as mastering table manners, but others are somewhat surprising. As well as not eating certain foods to avoid any embarrassing mishaps or spills, another custom about how and when the royals can use the bathroom is less than expected.

When a royal needs to use the bathroom during mealtime, they must not announce their intentions. Instead, it's preferred to say "excuse me" subtly and exit the room.

If they want to continue with their meal upon their return, they must leave their knife and fork crossed on their plate at an angle with the handles resting at the bottom right.
