Meghan Markle calls her childhood self an 'ugly duckling with frizzy hair'

Meghan Markle has described herself as being an "ugly duckling" during her school days. The former Suits actress made a series of rare revelations about her childhood in the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes, on which she's joined by The Office US writer and star Mindy Kaling.

Reflecting on growing up, the Duchess of Sussex, now 41, said it was “really hard” and that she was “the smart one forever and ever and ever” rather than the "pretty one" during her time at Immaculate Heart all-girls Catholic school in Los Angeles.

Speaking to Mindy, Meghan said she kept busy at lunchtimes at school and became president of clubs in an attempt to avoid worrying about who to sit with.

Mindy asked Meghan: “Were you not the pretty one growing up?" to which the Duchess replied: “No. Oh God, no.” She continued: “[I was the] Ugly duckling.
