Major Ollie Plunket is Queen Camilla's equerry, an officer from one of the armed services who is appointed to assist members of royalty in the day-to-day handling of their duties.
Royal fans were quick to notice the him at the King's coronation and he has been getting lots of attention ever since. Admiring the many equerries at the Coronation, one viewer asked: "Who’s the hot guy in front of Charles?" before simply adding "Fit." While another royal fan wrote: "I think a Royal Equerry Appreciation Society is needed," with one other viewer sharing an old collage with the caption, "More Ollie Plunket for you!" The role of equerry involves being in close regular contact with a member of the Royal Family within royal residences, as well as at public engagements and members of the monarchy usually choose their own equerry.
Plunkett was appointed to the role by Camilla in November 2022 and he assists in looking after the Queen Consort's diary, as well helping her with official events, and providing support with military relationships and engagements.The royal household also includes a number of "extra equerries" — honorary appointees drawn from among the current and retired senior officers of the royal household.
An equerry usually spends around three years in the role. Major Plunkett serves in The Rifles, the regiment Camilla has been colonel-in-chief of since 2020 after succeeding the late Prince Philip.
