Kicking off its third year, the Mediterrane Film Festival has announced the creative team behind its 2025 edition. With the festival taking place between June 21 and 29 in Malta, Ray Calleja has been named festival director, with Mark Adams as this year’s festival curator.

Calleja has solidified his place as a Maltese film and TV star over the past 45 years, having previously directed such cultural events as Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the EU cultural programme in 2017 and serving as the artistic director for the 2022 Malta Special Olympics Invitational Games.

Adams is a veteran film critic, programmer and festival consultant whose three decades of experience include serving as the artistic director for the Edinburgh International Film Festival and chief film critic for Screen International, as well as on juries at Sundance, Venice and TIFF.

Marking 100 years of film in Malta and how the medium has shaped the island nation’s cultural identity and creative legacy, the 3rd annual Mediterrane Film Festival features a lineup of screenings, panels and events that will immerse audiences in the “magic of storytelling.” Reflecting the festival’s view of cinema as “a cultural connector and creative force,” this year’s theme is ‘We Are Film’, “celebrating the transformative power of film as a universal art form that brings people together through stories, emotions, and shared experiences.” By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
